The current is not turning out to be a good one for any nation. And Especially China. Later this year, India shocked the mass economy by banning some of its most popular apps. It included the popular Tiktok and ShareIt. This happened in the wake of the border dispute between the two nations. But things worsened when the Chinese government for no apparent reason killed 14 Indian Soldiers. And now it seems like China is on the US’s radar.
After weeks of India banning Chinese apps, the USA also decided. Donald Trump already has grudges for he thinks that China created Corona Virus. Considering this he too decided to ban the Chinese apps, especially TikTok.
What Did The Parent Company Of TikTok Said?
The Bejing-based parent company of TikTok made it very clear that it will not sell the algorithm. The US has set a deadline for the company to do so. And if they don’t, as a consequence the US will ban the app. Regarding this, the ByteDance said, “The car can be sold, but not the engine”. A source reportedly said that,
” The company is willing to hand out the source code to any US buyer. But the technology team of TikTok in the US can build its new algorithm.” The same source further revealed that the company had notified the same to US firms.
Further, it was also revealed that the “no algorithm” was the basic condition for any sale or reconstruction of TikTok. This came after the Chinese government updated its ‘Export Controls’. According to which tech-companies would require official permission to send aboard algorithms.
What All US President Has To Say?
Trump’s administration has given TikTok a final deadline of September 15. If the company doesn’t handover its algorithm, the app will be banned from the USA. Also, Donald Trump has said it straight that the US will not extend the deadline in any case. He said, “We’ll either close TikTok in this company for security reasons or sell it to someone else”. Considering this TikTok has also filed a lawsuit against the decision.
But then, there is also support from Beijing in favor of ByteDance. People are demanding the company to sell TikTok but not the algorithm. A government source told that ” ByteDance can sell all of TikTok but the algorithm”. If this is the case then the buyers will have to reconsider there purchase plans and valuations. A source said,
“In theory, the US team can copy algorithms, but it takes time for users to get used to the copied algorithm”. It further added that ” With competition among similar apps heating up, it would be hard to catch up if you need some extra time”.
