A study published in the journal ‘Endocrinology’, stated the discovery of the site of male sexual desire. The study was published on September 10. A team of researchers discovered a specific region if the male brain tissue that is the site of the male’s sexual desire. The tissue contains a key gene called aromatase. It turns out that this gene regulates the sexual behavior of men. Aromatase converts testosterone to estrogen in the brain. By knowing this and with the help of target drugs we can control the sexual desire of a man. By the aid of drugs, we can increase its function for low sexual desires. If no, then we can decrease its function for compulsive sexual desire in males.
Here Is What The Study Says About Aromatase
The journal uncovered the specific region of the brain which can control the sexual behavior of men. And the key gene that does is aromatase. It is not like that this gene is a discovery. It’s just the functions of Aromatase that were not completely known before. Dr. Serdar Bulun said, “This is the first key finding to explain how testosterone stimulates sexual desire”. He further added that “For the first time, we demonstrated conclusively that the conversion of testosterone to estrogen in the brain is critical to maintaining full sexual activity or desire in males. Aromatase drives that”. Dr. Serdar Bulun is a senior author at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Medicine.
When scientists from knocked out Aromatase from specific regions of the brain, sexual activity came down in male mice. Even though the level of testosterone was higher in the blood.
“Male mice partially lost interest in sex,” stated Dr. Hong Zhao. Dr. Zhao is a research associate professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Feinberg. He further told that aromatase is the key enzyme. Without it, there will be no production of estrogen. Estrogen through prominently found in females holds an important function in both males and females. Conversion of testosterone into estrogen is important in males for sexual desire.
How Can This Help?
If you put a normal female and male mouse together, the male one will chase the other for having sex. But if you knock the aromatase gene in the brain, their sexual activities will decrease. That is in simple words they will not be interested in having sex. Scientist says that this finding can cure many diseases.
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder or low sexual desire disorder can be cured by this. On the other side, we can also treat compulsive sex disorder. But the only thing is that it will have side effects such as ash osteoporosis.
