Britannia Season 3 was renewed by Sky Atlantic earlier this year. Amazon prime has reportedly dumped the show and Epix will serve as the new home for the upcoming season.
The historical fantasy drama series first premiered on 18th January 2018 on Sky Atlantic for UK viewers. It then aired on Amazon Prime for US viewers on 26th January 2018. Jez Butterworth and Tom Butterworth are the creators of the show. The series started as a co-production between Sky Atlantic and Amazon Prime. Amazon was not a part of the production for the second season of the show and will continue the streak in the third season as well. The first season was mostly shot in Czechia and Wales. The reception of the show was mostly positive.
Release Date of “Britannia Season 3”
The third season has been given the green signal by Sky Atlantic in January 2020. In June 2020, the U.S. premium network Epix announced it would partner with Sky Atlantic to produce the third season of the series. Epix will also air the first season of the show beginning 2nd August 2020, and the second season beginning 4th October 2020.
We are yet to receive an official date of release for the third season. But given the current situation globally and the fact that the series renewed this year, it might take a while before the season hits the screens.
The Plot of the Show
The series is set in the year 43. It chronicles the Roman conquest of Britain. Britain at this point is a mysterious land ruled by wild warrior women and powerful druids who can channel the powerful forces of the underworld. Celtic rivals Kerra and Antedia work together to fight off the Roman invasion that is led by Aulus Plautius.
The third season will show Cait like the chosen one shouldering a lot of responsibilities to protect the war-torn people as well as their ravaged land. Veran on the other hand will go deep into the underworld and envision the future.
Creator Jez Butterworth has assured fans that a lot is about to happen. He also expressed their excitement to be able to continue the mythic journey for yet another season.
