Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated heroes from the medical field on Tuesday. The event was a triumphant awards ceremony for medical professionals. The delegates wore face masks and large flower pins and were welcomed without the world enthusiastic bugle calls. The country’s propaganda then was to stay behind the countries that are battling the virus right now. It wanted to put light on the place which is reborn now. But, they did not want us to believe that COVID-19 originated from the same place. Now, the propaganda seems to shift towards medical professionals. However, the pitfall here is that China is again trying to whitewash the fact that Chinese public health policy is facing a crisis right now.

The event took place on September 8, 2020. The president awarded gold medals to four heroes, aka, medical experts, in front of hundred spectators exemplifying their battle against the virus. He said, “We have passed an extraordinary and historic test. We quickly achieved initial success in the people’s war against the coronavirus. We are leading the world in economic recovery and in the fight against COVID-19.”

The award ceremony took place in the Great Hall of the People. It began with a minute’s silence salutation to those who lost their lives to the pandemic. The four personnel awarded are Zhang Boli, Zhang Dingyu, Chen Wei, and Zhong Nanshan, who is a top respiratory expert. He identified the SARS virus in 2003. Chinese President Xi Jinping awarded him with the Medal of the Republic and the other three national honorary titles.

Zhong Nanshan said, “We will join hands with the world’s medical workers to continue the fight in tracing the origins of the virus.” According to Beijing, the source of the virus is still unknown and Chinese professionals are working hard to find it out. The ceremony started with a CCTV montage of Wuhan at the peak of the outbreak. The video included the medical staff in hazmat suits and crowded hospitals. The total number of deaths in China is 4,634. The government is pleased to know that the COVID-19 was contained via travel restrictions. However, in May, a second wave of the virus was reported in China. How that will affect the nation is still unknown. The medical professionals, just like other countries, are hard at work.
