With the release of the last episode in April, Netflix is coming back with its epic ‘The Last Kingdom’. The show narrates the story of warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg. He is a Saxon by origin. The show is primarily based on the Saxon stories. These were written by the renowned author of many best selling books Bernard Cornwell. The show debuted back in 2015 on BBC Two. But later on, Netflix picked it up making it go all bigger and wider. When Netflix picked up the show, creator Dreymom got all emotional. When Is The Epic Historical Drama Coming Back?
Netflix has confirmed that the show will return. Nigel Marchant, who is the executive producer of the show said,
“We are proud of The Last Kingdom, which continues to entertain audiences all over the world…so are thrilled to be bringing it back for season five on Netflix. With such a loyal fanbase, we’re excited to give…”
Though there are no announcements regarding the release date of the show. But it takes approximately 18 months to craft an entire season. And now due to the pandemic, this period will be extended. So fans can hope to see the new season by the end of 2021 or maybe 2022.

The final episode showed the vulnerable state of England after the death of King Alfred. While king Edward (son of King Alfred) finds it hard to manage everything. And his problems double up because of untrustworthy advisers around him. Tied to England because of his ancestral home of Bebbanburg and because of his love for Aethelflaed of Mercia, Uhtred returns. He comes back during a very pivotal time. But the havoc has been evaded for a short while. The creators teased fans by saying that Uhtred will suffer through a severe heartbreak.
