The test for firing hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle (HSTDV) has been successful. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated DRDO for the successful mission.

He wrote in his tweet “Congratulations to @DRDO_India for successful flight of the Hypersonic Test Demonstration Vehicle today. The scramjet engine developed by our scientists helped the flight achieve a speed 6 timed the speed of sound! Very few countries have such capability today.”

This is a clear landmark achievement for the DRDO i.e. Defense Research and Development Organization. The successful testing of the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha at 11:03 on Monday has become a milestone for the Indian history.

The HSTDV, which operates on scramjet engines that can attain the speed of around Mach 6, has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

In a press release, the defense ministry said that “The hypersonic cruise vehicle was; launched using a proven solid rocket motor; which took it to an altitude of 30 kilometers (km), where the aerodynamic heat shields were separated at hypersonic Mach number. The cruise vehicle separated from the launch vehicle and the air intake opened as planned.”

DRDO was also congratulated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. He tweeted “The @DRDO_India has today successfully flight tested the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle; using the indigenously developed scramjet propulsion system. With success, all critical technologies are now; established to progress to the next phase.” He added “I congratulate to DRDO on this landmark achievement; towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. I spoke to the scientists associated with the project and congratulated them on this great achievement. India is proud of them.”

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also congratulated the DRDO describing the successful test flight of the hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle (HSTDV) as an important milestone in India’s quest towards achieving self reliance.
