LG announced the launch of its Explorer Project. This is to bring new smartphones with distinctive yet unexplored usability experiences. The first model under the new lineup will debut on 14th September 2020. The company also released a teaser video for the same. The video hints at a handset with a rotating and dual-screen experience. It might be the new “Wing” handset that was to debut in the second half of this year. LG said that the project is to expand the current user experience and would focus solely on new usability.

The video released by LG on its YouTube channel suggests a dual-screen phone rotating clockwise to form a T-shape design. Check out the LG teaser here.

LG has not provided many details about the new model. The company just stated that its virtual launch will take place through the LG Mobile Global Facebook and YouTube channels at 10 AM ET on 14th September 2020.

The Explorer Project

LG commented in a press release that the new smartphone would be a part of its Explorer Project. The company is also working with partners Qualcomm, Rave, Ficto, Tubi, and Naver to develop features for its new form factor.

President of LG’s Mobile Communications Company, Lee Morris said in a statement that LG and its platform partners feel it is important to demonstrate to customers new and differentiated user experiences in the smartphone space. LG has always been a forerunner in pushing the envelope of smartphone form factors. This is the only way to bring about much-needed innovation in the mobile market.

Features of LG’s Wing Handset

The T-shape design of LG’s new Wing handset could bring new use cases. One of the new use cases could be to let users watch one content horizontally on a widescreen while viewing the other one in a vertical position. The phone is also said to have a primary display of 6.8 inches, whereas its secondary display could be of four inches and has a 1:1 aspect ratio.

LG may also unveil Wing with a premium price tag of around 1,000 dollars. It might also have some specifications similar to those of the LG Velvet which are triple rear cameras and Snapdragon 765G SoC. The company in its release said that the new lineup would be unlike any that are under its Universal Line.

In the recent past also, models including the LG G8X ThinQ and V60 ThinQ with detachable dual screens have been brought to cater to the market of dual screens. The company has a history of providing dual selfie camera phones and curved screen handsets. The new model is to take the company’s presence in the smartphone market to a new level by bringing an all-new mobile viewing experience.
