It’s been more than a decade since the start of the anime adaption of Death Note and fans are still waiting for a season 2. Death Note is a Japanese manga series. Tsugumi Ohba is the writer of the series and Takeshi Obata is the illustrator. Death Note was first serialized in Shueisha’s manga magazine from December 2003 to May 2006. There are 108 chapters. They are collected and published into 12 volumes between April 2004 and July 2006. The anime is on Amazon Prime and also on Netflix with English subtitles.

The anime adaption of the series premiered in Japan from October 2006 to June 2007. Madhouse was the developer of the series and Tetsuro Araki was the director. It composed of 37 episodes in total.

Release Date of Death Note Season 2

Unfortunately, there has been no official announcement of a season 2 for the manga series. And after more than a decade since the animated series first debuted, it is hard to say if we will ever get a second run.

Although we have got various adaptions to the series in the form of live-action movies, mini-series, and a light novel. A movie adaption of the series was also released back in 2017 on Netflix and a sequel to the movie is reportedly underway.

The Plot of the Series

The series follows a teen genius, Light Yagami. He stumbles across a mysterious notebook, Death Note which belonged to Shinigami Ryuk. The book grants the user the ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages. Yagami then uses the notebook to carry out a worldwide massacre of people whom he deems unworthy of life. He wants to change the world into a society with no crime and gives himself an alias Kira. An elite task force of law enforcement officers tries to apprehend Kira and end his reign of terror. The head of the task force is a Japanese police force member, L whose past is a mystery.

In the end, we see that a massive cult has amassed secretly who worship Kira as their God and savior. If there will be a season 2 we might see a plot based on the storyline where the cult carries on the tasks of clearing up the society of people they think unworthy.

The voice artists of the series include Mascot Kubota as Light Yagami, Kendo Yamazaki as L, June voiced by Fukushima Ryuk, Hinako as Sino Misa Amane, Yutaka Matsushige Sichiro as Yagami, Seiko Yagami as Rico Fujiwara, Goki Maida as Taki Matsuda among others.
