Hey There! Thank you for reading my article. Your reviews and comments are most welcome.

Equal, when you hear the word, what comes to your mind? Is it equality among human races, is it gender equality, is it equality at the workplace, or is it equality between species?

To each their own.

But, at what number, did you think of sex equality? When did you think of non-binary inclusivity?

I’ll repeat again, to each their own.

However, we live in a world where we have to be conscious enough of our choices that not only reveal who we are, but who we are to the world. June is referred to as the ‘Pride Month‘. The people who belong to the LGBTQ+ community always look for venues where they can feel equal.

HBO Max is venturing to give one such venue. The entertainment industry is influential and we all know it. When it comes to invoking new trends and new lifestyle, we resort to the industry. So, when we need to make a certain sect’s voice heard, we resort to it again. HBO Max is bringing the show for all queer people who wanted their voices and struggles to be heard and seen.

What is Equal about?

Equal is an upcoming docuseries that will explore the stories of LGBTQ+ activists like Dale Jennings, Christine Jorgensen, and Lucy Hicks Anderson. The show is a four-part docuseries. It will explore the unsung heroes who devoted their lives to promote justice and equality within the queer community. Equal will not focus on the modern era but the era when queer people were just coming out. It will take place during Post-war America.

An excerpt from the synopsis of Equal on Collider reads, “Viewers will meet a wide range of LGBTQ+ visionaries.” The first part explores the rise of early organizations, the Mattcahine Society, and the Daughters of Bilitis in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The second part will focus on the 20th-century trans experience. The third part will showcase the Black community on the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. The fourth part focuses on Stonewall uprising.

The show will not only show talented actors in their respective roles but also show archival footage of the real people in historical events.

The cast of Equal

HBO Max has taken this education TV show on a whole new level. The reason is the cast. It is not a show where a white person is portraying the role of a black person. On the flip side, you will see people who identify themselves as a part of the LGBTQ+ community representing their talent to showcase their journey in disguise. The talented ensemble will include:

  • Samira Wiley as Lorraine Hansbury
  • Alexandra Grey as Luci Hicks Anderson
  • Shannon Purser as Del Martin
  • Heather Matarazzo as Phyllis Lyon
  • Jamie Clayton as Christine Jorgensen
  • Cheyenne Jackson as Dale Jennings
  • Anthony Rapp as Harry Hay

When will you see the show?

Equal will drop in October to celebrate the LGBT History Month, on HBO Max. A definite release date is yet to be announced. So, if you want to broaden your horizon of human struggles, this is the show for you. If you want to feel what others feel, this is the show for you.
