The series follows a boy named Kei Nagai. He discovers he is Ajin when he gets wounded in a traffic accident. Ajin is a small number of human who has the ability to regenerate, allowing them to recover from wounds in a matter of seconds.
Ajins are considered dangerous and inhuman by the normal public. The government captures them in the name of protecting them but instead use them for cruel and inhuman experiments. So the Ajins who have escaped from clutches of the government are bend on exacting revenge. However, Kei who wanted to stay away from the Ajin-human conflict has to make an agreement with the Japanese government in exchange for his freedom.
