Fans are left disheartened after Netflix canceled The Society season 2. Although the Series was up for a second run, it got canceled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The Series is an American teen drama mystery that streamed on Netflix. Christopher Keyser is the creator of the Series. The series debuted on 10th May 2019 on Netflix.
The series was initially pitched to Showtime in the year 2013. But the network decided to pass on the Series. It was then picked up by Netflix in 2018. The season was slated for a second season last summer, but unfortunately got canceled due to Covid-19. The second season was set to debut in the late 2020s.
The plot of the Series
The series follows a group of teenagers who must learn to run their community after the rest of the population of the community disappears. The mystery started when the teenagers found that every single person in their town has disappeared after they returned early from a canceled field trip. They encountered a dense forest that surrounded the city. The outside world has disappeared, and it cannot be contacted by any means. The teenagers had to come up with their own rules to survive with the limited available resources.

Renewal and Cancellation
The Society was originally slated for renewal in 2019. The Covid-19 situation was the reason for the untimely cancellation of the Series. On 21st August 2020, it was announced The Society Season 2 had been canceled. The pandemic has led to an increase in the cost, and it got difficult to schedule production.
The director of the show commented that it was pretty upsetting and abrupt that the Series had to be canceled. They had many months of conversations about the challenges of producing in such an environment. But unfortunately, they had a large cast and scenes with a fair number of people.
It is sad that we will never know how the story progressed. While a big mystery was solved in the first season that the teenagers are trapped in an alternate reality, the other question remains unanswered. Will the teenagers ever get out of the alternate dimension? Will they ever find their way home?
