Let me mention the biggest winner out of them all – Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Award making it the first non-English film to ever bag an Oscar. And it didn’t stop there, it bagged four more, including Best Director.
Filmmaker Bong Joon-ho won Best International Feature and Original Screenplay winning over 1917 which was a fan favorite to win because of its unique perspective of the way it was shot. Sam Mendes even missed out on Best Director losing to Parasite.
Renee Zellweger won the Oscar for Best Actress winning over Scarlett who was also deemed to win for her role in “Marriage Story”. The Oscar for Best Actor was bagged by Joaquin Phoenix which came as no surprise as Joaquin had already bagged his Golden Globe and was on the right path to win a very well deserved Academy Award. Phoenix’s speech made quite the rounds after the show aired because of his strong message that it sent. While Renee’s speech was quite probable, she shone a light towards the legacy of Judy Garland and check-listed her personal heroes.
Elton John was the big surprise of the night along with Bernie Taupin who picked their Oscar for Best Original Song from Rocketman. Hildur Gudnadottir picked up the Oscar for Best Original Score for her work in composing the smashing sound in Joker.
Perhaps as a relief for 1917, they bagged the Oscar for Best Visual Effect beating Avengers: Endgame which broke all records at the box office but couldn’t secure a win at the Academy. 1917 further bagged Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing which are considered can be considered as “entree” of the Academy Awards.
While these years Oscars came into heavy backlash for not nominating women directors or offering less representation geared towards racial inferior people, when the final music rolled out, all were happy and dandy for the winners.
