Grand Theft Auto 6: What’s Going On?

Must Read

Grand Theft Auto 6 is claimed to be the growing, most interactive iteration of the pioneering open-world series by Rockstar Games. The developer has not publicly announced that GTA 6 is in production, so we are also a long way off from an actual release date for GTA V heading to next-gen consoles in 2021. Finally, Rockstar is ready, it needs to break the adventure of crime into episodic installments, like the trilogy of Godfather.

When it came to interactive storytelling, GTA 5 broke new ground, with three protagonists that players could swap seamlessly between as well as multiple endings. For GTA 6, Rockstar could take it a move further and reveal the key story piece by piece. Like in the ionic gang movies of Francis Coppola, that will cause the story to stretch several decades.

The so-called “Project Americas” reports that say GTA 6 would cover specific plot territory that would match well with this dramatic storytelling style to Netflix’s cocaine cartel drama Narcos. Players might start the game as a low-ranking drug peddler who is ever more involved with a drug cartel to help their families before they become a kingpin. Their tale might conclude with their unfortunate demise at the hands of a competing, criminal enterprise and a new segment of the plot would start up with their son or daughter inheriting their place and finding vengeance.

This will render GTA 6 more immersive than ever before, keep players happy about the game for longer, and help Rockstar alleviate the rush atmosphere at the tail-end of Red Dead Redemption 2’s production process which had workers working “100-hour weeks.” So there is some suggestion that there might be an episodic GTA 6 potentially.

Games journalist Jason Schrier initially claimed that GTA 6 is still in production and could debut in several pieces, just as the Final Fantasy VII Remake by Square Enix, which would break the initial plot of the franchise into at least three different versions.

It’s impossible to tell how that would work in reality, although Rockstar might have a similar path to how MMORPGs carry out Downloadable packs, including World of Warcraft. The initial release of GTA 6 might restrict players to playing as one character in a single area, but later changes could see the daughter of the first protagonists moving to a whole different city or nation.

Not only does it suit the Project America reports, which suggested it GTA 6 could contain some of the most popular environments of the series, such as Liberty and Vice City, but that will also play into Rockstar’s tradition by utilizing the games-as-a-service model.

As of August 2019, GTA 5 Online has regularly issued patches that reached more than 33 million active players. GTA 6 may be a natural extension of this strategy and sets out a new paradigm for how video games should be produced in the 2020s and beyond.
