On Monday, Barca announced via the club’s television channel regarding the dismissal of Quique Setien from his post of the first-team coach. Though the contract that was signed until June 2022, but it lasted only seven months. With a dismal record of 16 victories, three draws, and five painful defeats in Valencia, Madrid, Bilbao, against Osasuna Setien, is now leaving the position of Barca Coach.
The statement of Barcelona reads:
“The Board of Directors has agreed that Quique Setien is no longer the first-team coach. This is the first decision within a wider restructuring of the first team, which will be agreed between the current technical secretary and the new coach, who will be announced in the coming days.”

The statement makes things quite clear and understandable. On 13th January this year, Setien became the coach of Barca. The Cantabrian coach during his seven months period coached the first team in 25 matches, among which 19 were of the league, 3 in the Champion League, and 3 in the Copa del Rey. He replaced the previous coach Valverde in January. He was signed in all of a sudden, and the opportunity was completely unexpected for him. But, unfortunately, he was not able to make the most of this golden opportunity for him.
The team won two previous league campaigns under Coach Ernesto Valverde. But things were not the same when Setien came in as the coach of the team. Instead of lifting the team to a new level, he made it even worse. With his dismissal, he became the first Barcelona coach to leave the club without winning a single trophy since Frank Rijkaard in 2008.
It is also true that since his joining as the team coach, there were several problems. There was a breakdown in communication between his assistant Eder Sarabia and the squad. Even when communication is the key that makes the team stronger. And, the result of this issue was not favorable.
With this behavior of him, some players turned against him and decided to take things into their own hands. And, as soon as Setien tried to change the system, it was rejected by the players who returned to the system they had known under Valverde.
Things got heated up between him and the squad after the defeats to Valencia and Real Madrid in LaLiga. But, things turned worst when the team lost again to Osasuna.
