In September 2018,  Jed Mercurio confirms that season 1 was just the beginning. This hints that there will be a possible season 2. The creator posts a tricky tweet on Twitter, so officially, season 2 is happening. However, due to the global coronavirus outbreak, there is no possible confirmation about the release date yet.

However, we can expect the season to release in the fall of next year. It has been two years since the release of the first season. The whole of the UK, along with the fans worldwide, are waiting for the second season to arrive. We don’t know if the production is on hold or began yet. But we are hoping that season 2 will come out as soon as the situation clears.

The cast will more or less be the same as season 1. We will see Richard Madden returning as David Budd. We will see him back on duty. But this time, he will be protecting a foreign delegate or a royal family member. There will be no protecting a politician this time. Kelley Hawes might not return following her death in season 1. However, we believe that Julia is still alive. So it is going to be fascinating to see her return from the dead. And if she does not return, we might expect to see her in flashbacks.

We will also see other cast members reprising their roles. This includes Gina McKee appearing as Cmdr Anne Sampson. We will see Sophie Rundell appearing as Vicky Budd, Ash Tandon appearing as DCI Deepak Sharma. Last but not least, we will see Nina Toussaint-White appearing as DS Louise Rayburn. There will also be many others returning to the series.

The plot of season 2 will take off from the finale episode of season 1. In season 1, we saw David accepting to go for counseling. This is for his PTSD and also to prove his innocence. We saw him almost getting killed. So we can expect the next part of this in season 2.

In season 1, Luke Aitkens kills Julia Montague to stop her from becoming the Pri9me Minister. Ever since then, David was seen battling his issues against mental health. So season 2 might show more fo David and his situation. However, there is going to be a lot of politics, action, and drama in Bodyguard season 2.
