The Rising of The Shield Hero Season 2, a perfect amalgamation of light novel and manga series, is a Japanese dark fantasy anime. It is based on the novel series by Aneko Yusagi. It premiered in January 2019. After the first season’s ending, it was announced that the anime would get renewed for a second and a third season. The character Raphtalia was selected as Best Girl for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2020.
It is a story of a straightforward Japanese youngster, Naofumi Iwatani, who gets summoned into a parallel world. He gets accompanied by three other young men. They then turn into heroes, well equipped to fight against inter-dimensional monsters. Naofumi receives a legendary shield, whereas the other boys get a sword, a bow, and a spear. However, the series turns against him when his colleague, a princess, betrays him and accuses him of sexual assault. He then starts training alone when he meets a demi-human girl named Raphtalia. They then grow together as a team.
In Japan, the anime’s reviews soared positively. However, the anime initially received backlash in the US for the depiction of slavery and the contradiction of the ‘Me Too Movement.’ The producer Junichiro Tamura addressed the situation. He said, “There have not been any controversies regarding the series in Japan.”
However, since the third episode, reviews started getting positive. Reviewer Theron Martin said, “Episode 3 gives the best argument to date for the series’ possible potential.”
Release date of The Rising of The Shield Hero Season 2
In September 2019, at Crunchyroll Expo, we got the confirmation about the series’ renewal for two more seasons. Before the Coronavirus outbreak, there were reports for the airing of the second season at the end of 2020. Right now, these plans do not seem plausible.

In season 1, we witnessed various feats and adventures by the heroes. We saw betrayals and unions. Season 1 ended with the revelation that Glass and LARC were superheroes like Naofumi. He, along with Raphtalia, starts the resurrection process of her village.
In The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2, we can expect Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo to get stronger and resilient enemies. This will make the anime more action-packed and climactic.
