There is an announcement by the PUBG Corporation that it will soon launch PUBG Mobile India. This will mark the game’s return to India in a new form. According to reports, this might happen as early as Diwali. But the comeback may not be as easy.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) had banned PUBG Mobile, PUBG Mobile Lite, and 115 other Chinese apps in September this year in India. This is under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The reason behind this is that the application engages in activities that are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity, defense, and security of the country.
According to sources, the Indian government remains firm in its decision, and unless the PUBG Corporation addresses their concerns, it will be difficult to grant any relaxation to PUBG Mobile.
Indian Government Might Not Change Its Stance On PUBG Ban
The government is unlikely to change its decision before it gets to see the new version of the gaming application. And also analyze its policies.
In its launch announcement release, PUBG Corporation said that it will provide Indian players with a healthy and secure gameplay environment. In this environment, the Corporation will ensure that the privacy and security of the player’s data will be its top priority. The company will also conduct audits and verifications at regular intervals. This will be on the storage systems that are holding users’ personally identifiable information. This check will be to reinforce security and ensure that the user’s data is in safe hands.
Krafton Inc has also announced its plans to invest 100 million dollars in India. Krafton is the holding company, of which PUBG Corporation is a subsidiary of this company. South Korea’s Bluehole is the company that founded Krafton and the PUBG Corporation is an internal studio of Bluehole. In addition to the investment, PUBG Corporation will also set up a base in India. In this base, it will employ over 100 people to enhance communications and services.
Tencent Games was in charge of the distribution of the application version of the game. This version faces a ban by the Indian government. PUBG Mobile India will be a separate game with similar elements to PUBG Mobile. But the distribution of the mobile application will be by PUBG Corporation itself and not by Tencent Games. PUBG PC and PUBG console, both are distributed by PUBG Corporation and are still available in India. But both are paid versions of PUBG.
If the Indian government still has apprehensions, PUBG Corporation will have to make more changes to the new version as well before it can make a comeback to the Indian market.
