With the release date of Sony’s coveted Playstation 5 coming closer, gamers all over the globe can’t contain their excitement. With over a dozen games officially announced, the PS5 is set to match the success of its predecessor. But the latest PS5 is not just a gaming console. It is so much more than that!
Sony announced in their tour of the PS5 User Experience that the new Playstation will come with its own dedicated Media Section. Which means you don’t have to download the apps from the PS Store anymore. They will already be there in their own dedicated space next to the gaming space. This means the PS5 is now also a streaming media service and you can switch between a game and a movie that you were watching, instantly.
Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+ and more
So, which streaming apps will be available on the PS5? Well, almost all of them. In a new blog post, Sony has revealed the list of streaming apps that will be available on the new PS5 on day one. These apps include Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch, and Youtube. It is mentioned that additional streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock, MyCanal, and more apps will be added soon. According to a new update in Polygon, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation will also be available on PS5 from day one.
PS5 users can now stream the massive amount of content available on the various streaming services as well as live-stream their favorite gameplay directly on Twitch or Youtube via their consoles. Just like PS4, users can also listen to their favorite music in the background with Spotify.
Sony has confirmed that there will be no need to download these streaming apps. They will be available on the device from day one.
We also see the new Control Center in the User Experience video which will help in controlling our music easier than ever before, according to Sony. PS5 users can now quickly switch between channels, skip or pause their music.
The new PS5 Media Remote
Back in April, Sony unveiled the photos of the PS5 Media Remote. Sony has since revealed that the remote will feature dedicated buttons for Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, and Youtube. This remote will allow faster navigation in the Media section. The remote comes with built-in play/pause, fast forward, and fast reverse controls. It also lets users adjust power and volume settings on compatible TV’s. The Media Remote will be available on the same day as the launch, November 12. The remote will be available for $29.99.
The Playstation 5 is set to release on November 12 and the Media Remote will also be available to buy along with it. The PS5 and the dedicated Media Remote is already on pre-sale. With titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West already announced, the PS5 is all set for a grand launch.
