United States President Donald Trump ended his interview abruptly with CBS News on Tuesday, 21st October 2020. He also did not return for an appearance he was to tape with Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump sat down in the White House with host Lesley Stahl of the “60 minutes” show for about 45 minutes. He then abruptly ended the interview. According to sources, Trump told the network he believes that they had enough material to use.
Why Trump Ended His Interview With CBS News?
According to a source, Trump apparently walked out of the interview because he was found Stahl’s line of questioning frustrating. Another person said that the majority of the questions were on coronavirus.
White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has said there is a high probability that the President will release footage of the interview before it airs on Sunday. He accuses Stahl of acting more like an opinion journalist. CBS News did not immediately respond to a comment on the incident. The President even later accused Stahl of not wearing a mask. He tweeted out a brief clip of her without a mask while at the White House.
According to a person familiar with the situation said that the image from Trump’s tweet shows Stahl with her producers immediately after Trump walked out of the interview. Stahl had not yet gone back to get her personal belongings so she did not put her mask back on. She was wearing a mask from the time she came to the White House to just before the start of the interview.
With only two weeks remaining until the election, Trump has spent this week attacking and growing upset at depictions portraying his campaign as doomed. His ending the taping on “60 Minutes” abruptly is evidence of Trump’s visible irritation as he enters the campaign’s final days.
Former Vice President Joe Biden and California Senator Kamala Harris were also interviewed for the show. All four candidates will be appearing in the same program on Sunday. Biden and Harris taped their interviews separately but Trump and Pence were to appear on camera together. But Trump did not return for the appearance with Pence.
The interview will air this Sunday.
Stahl has previously challenged Trump in a 2018 interview on his views on climate change and Russian election interference. Stahl has previously said that during an off-camera conversation with Trump in 2016, he said that his attacks on the press were meant to discredit negative stories that emerged about him.
