Schitt’s Creek season 6 aired on 7 April 2020. Putting a bow on six seasons of passion, recognition, and the genuinely extraordinary but relatable conditions of one family was not a simple feat. Yet the entire cast and artistic staff and crew were able to give any character that people have grown to know and enjoy a fitting farewell.
Unfortunately, season 7 of Schitt’s Creek is not actually on the table. And that’s a pity, because, for some, Schitt’s Creek ended as quickly as it began. The series aired on the Canadian network, CBC, and the little-known U.S. channel PopTV for four seasons, before the back catalog of episodes made its way to the streaming giant Netflix.
As the fourth and fifth seasons continued as planned, the series began to drum up buzz, as more and more viewers had access to this little gem of the series. It was mainly thanks to Netflix that the show found its foundation.
In order to make the omission of a seventh season ever more difficult, the series dominated the comedy categories at the 2020 Emmy Awards in September 2020. The cast was shocked to receive so many wins, and hopefully, it made them think about bringing the show back to the season. 7 or a spin-off!
Specifically, the series has received the following Emmys:
- Outstanding Comedy Series
- Lead Actor, Comedy (Eugene Levy)
- Lead Actress, Comedy (Catherine O’Hara)
- Supporting Actor, Comedy (Daniel Levy)
- Supporting Actress, Comedy (Annie Murphy)
- Casting, Comedy Series (Lisa Parasyn, Jon Comerford)
Making ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Season 6 the last season
Until the amazing final of the fifth season, the series had achieved monumental success, almost overnight, and suddenly, just like that, co-creators Dan and Eugene Levy revealed that the sixth season would be the last.
For a fan base that was only starting to enjoy the rewards of a show packed with both hope and joy, it felt like the rug was being pulled out from under us. Yet the charm of Schitt’s Creek is just getting better when you watch the series again. There are subtleties in the characters, layered over episodes that you notice more and more as you go back through the seasons.
It’s a show that doesn’t weigh heavily on the viewer and will provide comfort to many more people as they discover it over time. But that doesn’t mean that the prospect of no more adventures with the Rose family hurts any less.
