Ashwani Kumar, Former CBI Director died on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. The officer served the Central Bureau of Investigation from August 2008 to November 2010. He also was a part of the Indian Police Force in 1973. Police found his dead body in his Shimla residence. The main way of death is suspected to be that of suicide. 69 years old officer, also left behind a note. The Himachal Pradesh police are carrying out the inspection practice to go deeper into his death.

Ashwani Kumar, apart from being an ex-police officer and ex CBI officer, also was Nagaland governor. Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh elected him as the governor in 2013. The same year, he also got the responsibility of Manipur state. In 2014, however, he had to leave his post considering the new party, BJP, coming into force. Earlier as well, Bhartiya Janata Party protested against his appointment as the governor.
He was also a part of the Special Protection Group during the tenure of then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. From 1985 to 1990, he also served the Prime Minister’s office as an Assistant Director. Ashwani Kumar had a dignified way of working. In his tenure as the CBI Director, he had brought forward the black deeds of some prominent political leaders. This includes Amit Shah as well.

According to an official, the police found the boy of a dead Ashwani Kumar at his house in Brokhhurst around 7 PM. The medical professionals will conduct a post-mortem examination at Indira Gandhi Medical College. His residence in Chhota Shimla is currently sealed under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Shimla Superintendent of Police, Mohit Chawla commented that they found his body hanging at his home. The forensic team is also hard at work to get any information that misses the naked eye. The note he left can also provide additional shreds of evidence, however, the police have not mentioned of it anything yet.
According to one of his neighbors, he went on his usual walk yesterday. After coming back, he went to the attic and hanged himself. It is also said that the lifestyle change in the last six months due to the pandemic and lockdown also may play a role in his death.
