Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said on Friday, 2nd October 2020 that President Donald Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis shows the importance of taking the pandemic seriously. He tells Americans that wearing masks is more important than being a tough guy.
He campaigned in the battleground state of Michigan hours after testing negative twice for the virus. His remarks served as an implicit criticism of the Republican President. Trump has mocked the deadliness of the virus for months. He has frequently avoided using masks. And has also held campaign rallies of thousands with little social distancing.
Trump’s illness a little more than four weeks before the 3rd November presidential election has put even greater attention on the coronavirus pandemic. Trump was experiencing mild symptoms and he will be off the trail indefinitely. The White House said the President was being moved into a special suite. The suite is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, for the next few days as a precautionary measure.
Joe Biden’s Speech At The Union Hall And His Tough Guy Remark
At a union hall in Grand Rapids, Biden said he and his wife, Jill Biden, are praying that Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, have a swift and full recovery from the virus. He delivered the entire speech at the union hall while wearing a blue medical mask. This is a departure from prior events where he typically took off his mask before speaking.
He said that this is not a matter of politics. It is a bracing reminder to all of us that we have to take this virus seriously. It will not be going away automatically.
Biden urged all Americans to follow scientific guidelines. This includes wearing masks, washing hands frequently, and staying 6 feet apart. Health officials, including the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Redfield, have said masks are a crucial tool for slowing the spread of the deadly virus.
Biden said to be patriotic. It not about being a tough guy but it is about doing your part.
During Tuesday’s utterly chaotic presidential debate, Trump has mocked Biden for wearing a mask at all his events, even when he is far away from other people.
What Does Trump’s Diagnosis Say About The Coronavirus Pandemic?
Trump’s diagnosis is likely to reinforce Biden’s message to everyone about the president’s failed response to the disease. It has killed more than 207,000 people in the United States. Trump testing positive also undermines the President’s argument that the end of the pandemic is in sight. Opinion polls have shown voters trust Biden more than Trump to handle the pandemic.
Democratic strategist Chris Kofinis says that it is hard to say the disease is under control when you fall victim to it. If we are talking about the pandemic for the next four weeks, Trump loses.
During a virtual grassroots fundraiser on Friday, Biden’s running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama both wished the President and the first lady a speedy recovery.
Harris said. that her husband, Doug and she are sharing their deepest prayers for the health and recovery of the president and the first lady. She added that let it be a reminder to all of us that we must remain vigilant and take care of ourselves and each other.
As Biden’s motorcade traveled through Grand Rapids, dozens of supporters stood at the side of the roads holding and waving placards. One woman even held a small American flag and a cardboard sign that read, Masks work.
Biden’s campaign is temporarily taking down advertisements criticizing Trump for his handling of the coronavirus after his diagnosis. Biden is leading Trump in national opinion polls. A Reuters poll last month showed Biden leading Trump by 5 percentage points among likely voters in Michigan.
