Delhi Capitals’ ace spinner Amit Mishra has salivated the ball on 27th September 2020 against the prescribed rules of IPL. The incident took place during the match between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 15 runs.
The Incident for which Amit Mishra is receiving flak
The veteran leg spinner was bowling to Jonny Bairstow of SRH when he used saliva on the ball. Interestingly, he did not even inform the umpires about the same. Viewers were clearly aghast when the umpires did not take any initiative to sanitize the ball.

According to the new norms that are prescribed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the bowlers cannot use saliva or perspiration to shine the ball. This is a very common rule that came into force because of the ongoing pandemic situation. And the IPL body is also following the same rules.
Reactions of viewers about the incident on Twitter
Mishra might have bowled a wonderful spell, but this did not stop him from getting flak from viewers on Twitter. Right after the ball salivating incident took place, several spectators lambasted his sheer callousness in handling the ball on Twitter. The social media platform was abuzz with posts showing their outrage.
Clips and pictures of the veteran ace spinner salivating the ball started doing the rounds on Twitter as soon the incident happened. The viewers also voiced their concerns against the umpires. The umpires completely ignored the whole incident and continued with the game. The Twitteratis started protesting against the baffling attitude shown by the experienced campaigner. The silence of the umpires on this incident added fuel to the fire.
One twitter user commented that the ace spinner was seen putting saliva on the ball after 6.1 over. He questioned if it is okay as the same was banned due to the ongoing pandemic.
Another user tweeted that he saw Mishra licking the ball twice while bowling in the over. He voiced his concerns and said umpires should at least wipe the ball.
Yet another user tweeted that is it legal that the spinner is applying saliva on the ball.
