Explaining the utility of the Agri reforms criticized by the opposition and a section of farm organizations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 27th September 2020 has cited cases of a huge choice of farmers who had benefited from being allowed to promote farm intention delivery air the precincts of Agricultural Fabricate Advertising and marketing Committees or Mandis.

The PM acknowledged he had got many letters from farmers. And have also interacted with some groups. This is to know about the adjustments in agriculture, new dimensions, and enhancements that are giving agriculture its strength. He gave examples of farmers from Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh who narrated how they had benefited from the reforms. And how they made larger earnings by promoting their farm products straight to customers of their choice, in some cases, even 5-star hotels.

The PM also acknowledged equal advantages have now percolated to farmers across the nation. The farmers are outside of the clutches of middlemen even as they got remunerative prices.

The farmers have now received the freedom to promote not only fruits and vegetables but whatever they produce like paddy, wheat, mustard, sugarcane at any place where they get a better price for their produce.

What other things did PM address in his speech?

Although Modi made no direct reference to the contentious farm bills, the emphasis on putting off mandi restrictions was aimed at quelling the opposition-led criticism round the laws as “anti-farmer”.

The government has announced MSP to counter the allegations that this system will vanish. These bills will allow farmers to sell their produce anywhere where they are getting better prices. Modi also gave an example of a Gujrati farmer who adopted innovative methods to grow potatoes and sold it to big companies. According to Modi, the agriculture sector will benefit greatly from the use of technology.

In his address, the PM also remembered some of our freedom fighters head of their birth anniversaries. He once again requested the people to wear masks and maintain social distancing in the view of the coronavirus pandemic.
