Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that levels of happiness among all ethnic groups in the western region of Xinjiang are rising. China will keep teaching its residents a correct outlook on China. Xinhua news agency reported the statement on Saturday, 26th September 2020.

China has come under the radar over its treatment of Uighur Muslims and claims of alleged forced-labor abuses in Xinjiang. According to The United Nations reports one million Muslims are in the camps and are working as forced laborers.

China has repeatedly denied mistreating Uighurs and insists on the camps being vocational training centers. According to China, these centers are in place to tackle extremism, accusing what it calls anti-China forces of smearing its Xinjiang policy.

Chinese President Xi’s Statement

According to Xinhua, a ruling Communist Party conference on Xinjiang was took place on Friday and Saturday. Xi in the conference said that the sense of gain, happiness, and security among the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang has continued to increase.

Xi further said that it was necessary to educate Xinjiang’s population on an understanding of the Chinese nation. And also guide all the ethnic groups on establishing a correct perspective on the country, its history, and nationality.

The President also added that practice has shown that the party’s strategy for governing Xinjiang in the new era is completely correct. And this practice should be a long-term approach.

In July this year, Washington imposed sanctions on Chinese officials over alleged human rights abuses. The abuses were against Uighurs under the Global Magnitsky Act. the act allows the U.S. government to bring into task human rights violators by freezing any U.S. assets. Also, banning U.S. travel and prohibiting Americans from doing any kind of business with them.

Xinjiang’s Vocational Training Center

These vocational camps are under operation by the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region government and its CCP committee. They came into being under CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping’s administration. It is alleged that these camps are actually used to indoctrinate Uyghurs and other Muslims since 2017. This is as part of a people’s war on terror.

It is said that Chinese authorities may have detained hundreds of thousands, or maybe a million, Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and other ethnic Turkic Muslims, Christians as well as some foreign citizens like the Kazakhstanis. These camps are located throughout the region.

In 2019 at the United Nations, 54 nations which also included China rejected allegations against China. And they also supported China’s policies in Xinjiang. In another letter, 23 nations brought allegations against China and did not support China’s policies.
