Shiromani Akali Dal has been quite in the news ever since Farm Bills 2020 came into life. SAD claims to stand with the farmers in their protest against the bills. Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from her designation of the Minister of Food Processing Industries, as well. All the leading members of the Shiromani Akali Dal left their oldest ally, BJP. Now, with the rising tensions in Punjab and Haryana and amidst the Punjab Bandh, the party also left the NDA. The oldest ally formally left all of its association with the Center to join the protests.
Shiromani Akali Dal broke its 24-year-long association
SAD on Saturday, Septmber 26, 2020, decided to break all its ties with Bharatiya Janata Party and National Democratic Alliance, consequently with the Lok Sabha. The move came in the midst of the rising protests of the farmers and agricultural laborers who are totally against the bills. All the farmers believe that the three ordinances passed are a disguised attack on their lifetime relationship with their land. The land is not just a profession for the Indian farmers, it is a blood tie. So, when they fear that their rights over their own land will not exercise anymore, their protests become valid.

The Farm Bills first passed in the UP years ago, however, it was not a success. Now, you can see tons of people from there migrating to Punjab and Haryana doing the work they were ding in their own stats earlier. So, the farmers in Punjab and Haryana fear this is what will happen to the Jatts and Jats, as well. The alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP occurred in 1996. The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party both accused the SAD in having a role in the passing of the Farm Bills in the Lok Sabha. Hence, this is the move they used to re-instate their trust among people, which solely depends on the public, considering the party’s history in controversial incidents in our history.
The reason SAD gave on its back down
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “the three agricultural bills are lethal and disastrous for the already hard-pressed farmers.” The party wants to stand with its Sikh and Punjabi community and said that the resignation comes with the fact the Center is stubborn to not take back its decisions. He further added, “We were hoping that the Center would not press on with the murderous assaults on the farmers. It seems that BJP is totally out of touch with ground realities.”
Dr. Daljit Cheema also said that the farmers are against the contentious bills passed and their party stands with it. He also added, “We even requested President Ram Nath Kovind not to approve the bills.” However, nobody heard them, so their move to step out the alliance becomes automatic and apparent.
If Pain & Protests of 3 cr punjabis fail to melt the rigid stance of GoI, it's no longer the #NDA envisioned by Vajpayee ji & Badal sahab. An alliance that turns a deaf ear to its oldest ally & a blind eye to pleas of those who feed the nation is no longer in the interest of Pb. https://t.co/OqU6at00Jx
