We love the Schitt’s Creek annual hiatus almost as much as polyester is loved by David Rose, but here we are, with several months to go before new installments of the funny Canadian comedy return to our screens. Although we are waiting for the sixth season, we have a range of information that has already been revealed by the cast and crew. Here’s all we hear from the next season so far and what to expect.
When Will Season 6 Premiere?
Dan Levy announced when season six would premiere during a July appearance on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, adding, ‘I’m celebrating the end of our show. In October, it already has to go down on Netflix, which is very interesting. That’s right, we just have to wait for new episodes for just a month!
It’s also worth remembering that for audiences in the US and those in Canada, the schedule could be significantly different. In Canada, CBC airs the shows, and normally, POP airs them with a small lag period in the US, generally only a few days. The prospect of a holiday special, which the series first tested out in seasons four and five in December 2018, still exists.
Will the Cast and Crew Be the Same?
As planned, the full cast returns for the sixth season, led by Johnny Rose as Eugene Levy, Moira Rose as Catherine O’Hara, David Rose as Dan Levy, Alexis Rose as Annie Murphy, Patrick Brewer as Noah Reid, Stevie Budd as Emily Hampshire, and Ted Mullens as Dustin Milligan. It is expected that Chris Elliot, Jenn Robertson, and Sarah Levy will all return as well. Dan and Eugene Levy, the father-son team behind the show, along with their creative writers’ space, will continue to executive-produce and compose the script. For two of the season five series, Dan Levy also stepped behind the camera; it remains to be seen if he would repeat it during season six.
Storyline
At the close of season five, the sixth season will definitely deal with the fallout from some of the big plot points left unanswered. While the days of the Roses attempting to run are well behind them in the town of Schitt’s Creek, there is still a lot of confusion at work.
Moira’s major film revival crashed at the end of season five when her script was shelved, leaving her completely devastated and hiding on the floor of the hotel room. On the other end of things, however, with his dedication to Patrick, who effectively costarred with Stevie in the production of Cabaret in the area, David reached a joyful new peak. And Alexis and her boyfriend Ted left for the Galapagos, only to discover, much to her disappointment, that she was going to miss her family. Season six, with Alexis practicing freedom, Moira trying to come back, and David and Patrick planning their wedding, will potentially continue these storylines.
