Pandemic was something no one was ready for. But there are things we know and we are still not ready. Nevertheless, experts already suggested that in November and December the world will be hit a second wave. This means that the spread will again reach a peak and will cost many lives. It seems like it has already started. Back there in the United Kingdom, there is an exponential rise in the new cases. Many countries that saw decline are again reporting new cases at a rapid rate. And one such country is Myanmar. Here is what is happening.
Corona Virus In Myanmar
Yangon province, home to Myanmar’s largest city has been put under lockdown for two weeks. The step is taken to contain the soaring cases of coronavirus. In November, Myanmar will hold its general election. According to the guidelines issued by the central committee on corona virus control states:
“The strict stay-at-home order from Monday bars more than one member of a family venturing out for shopping. It also curbs travel from Yangon township to other cities, except for some very essential work”.
Apart from that, essential services such as banking, healthcare, fuel stations, and food outlets will go on as usual. About 4 million people living in the area had less than 24 hours to prepare. The rule came into effect on Monday at 8 am (01:30 GMT).
Further, it requires private companies to ask their employees to work from home. Meanwhile, government workers will are asked to work on rotation. Which means 2 weeks from home and the other from the office. According to the Ministry of Health and Sports, the quarantine period at health centers has been cut down from 2 to one week. This has been done to make space for primary and secondary infected people.
Health Minister Myint Htwe said the measures were necessary because of the rise in locally-transmitted cases that were not the result of travel or contact with anyone already known to have the disease. Healthy Ministry on Sunday said that they have recorded around 671 new coronavirus cases. But they didn’t reveal the site of reporting. For a few Myanmar didn’t record a single new case. But the disease suddenly re-appeared in the conflict-hit western state of Rakhine. Most of the recent cases have been in Yangon.
What More Do We Know?
Here are a few important highlights one must remember:
- No visitors are allowed in the street except with prior approval from township authorities.
- Vehicles must not carry more than 2 people.
- All factories including cutting, making, and packing are to be closed from September 27 to October 7.
- All people under quarantine are subjected to a mandatory one week home isolation after testing negative.
