The White House has received a letter with deadly poison RICIN. A female suspect has been taken into custody for allegedly sending the letter to President Donald Trump. The letter was send to the White House.
The Customs and Border Protection agents took the woman into custody while she was trying to enter the US from Canada at a border crossing in New York state. The female was in possession of a gun when officers detained her. Prosecutors in Washington DC will be bringing charges against her over the poison package.
 The Discovery of the Deadly Poison RICIN Letter
FBI said that the law enforcemnet intercepted the suspicious letter send to the president. The sorting and screening of all the packages send to the White House happens at a secure offsite facility prior to delivery. The confiscation of the letter to the White House happened at the final offsite processing facility. This is where the mail is screened before being sent to the White House mailroom.
The confirmation of the presence of ricin came after running lab tests on the letter. Ricin is deadly if inhaled. FBI in a statement said that the F.B.I., the U.S. Secret Service, and U.S. Postal Inspection Service partners are investigating the suspicious letter that was received at a U.S. government mail facility. They further added that there is no known threat to public safety at this moment.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have confirmed that it was working with the FBI on the investigation. Law enforcement sources said that they believed the package had been sent from Canada. They were seeking a female Canadian suspect.
The suspect has also allegedly sent other poison packages to a detention facility and a sheriff’s office in Texas. Acording to reports, as of now only one package is send to a political figure. Although it is not clear when any of the packages came or who the recipients of the other packages were. There is no indication or proof as of yet that the poison packages have any connection to any international terrorist organizations.
Previous Attempts of Attacks With RICIN
Ricin is a highly potent toxin. It comes from castor beans and is extremely lethal if inhaled or injected. Inhaling a dose which is the size of a few grains of salt can be lethal to adults.
There has been the usage of Lethal ricin previously to target American politicians through the mail.
In the year 2014, actress Shannon Richardson went to prison for 18 years for sending envelopes containing ricin addressed to then-President Barack Obama and to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
In 2014, Georgetown University student Daniel Milzman was in possession of a bag of ricin that was in his dorm room. According to prosecutors he had planned to use it on another student he had formerly been in a relationship with. He went to federal prison for one year and one day.
